How to Plant Seeds

Planting seeds is easier than you might think!  Learn how to plant seeds in a tray using our step-by-step instructions.

1. Fill the seed tray with seed starting or medium potting soil.
2. Level the soil, and then compact it.
3. Carefully moisten the soil with a watering can.
4. Sprinkle seeds onto the soil, leaving space between each seed.  Check your seed packet for details.
5. Cover the seeds with a light layer of soil.
6. Gently compact the soil again.
7. Label your seed tray with a permanent marker.
8. After the seeds begin to grow, you can transfer them to a more permanent location like a pot or the ground.
